Luggage from Spain – UPS beats FedEx, DHL and TNT

Monday, April 25th, 2011

On 21 April, a lady sent 15 boxes weighing over 130kg from Barcelona in Spain to her mother in Sydney, Australia. Monday 25th they are already there via UPS Express Saver! Last time I tried this with FedEx they refused to take them. I had to have them diverted via TNT in the UK and, although they eventually arrived, TNT in Australia sat on them for ages before they finally delivered.

Now, this lady listened very carefully to Citibox’s advice of how to pack her belongings, how to describe all the boxes, how to list the contents, what items were better in her suitcase than in a box. I have to admit to being surprised myself, although Thursday was not a public Holiday in the Barcelona region, it was in much of Spain but these personal belongings got from Spain to Australia over a bank holiday weekend.

Well done UPS. They have also for us sent three shipments of an artist’s work from Malaga to Washington DC. Again, the artist listened carefully to Citibox’s packing advice and he is at this moment hanging them undamaged. He is thrilled with the service.

Citibox will soon be offering UPS Express and UPS Express Saver from all its offices, not just over the internet, and we very much value the fabulous service that we are receiving from UPS. Combined with the Citibox courier expertise over nearly 10 years of shipping parcels from Spain, our customers are getting the very best in courier value and service.

Why it makes even more sense to Courier your Luggage from Spain

Friday, April 1st, 2011

I have just seen a report in the Economist citing figures from SITA on airline baggage losses in 2010.

Having had my own bag lost once I can tell you how stressful and frustrating it is when you are waiting for your suitcase to come up the ramp and drop down to the carousel …. and everyone else leaves with theirs and you are forced to go and stand in the queue to complete a lost property form. This happened to me on the only time I have ever flown British Airways First Class and I have never flown with that airline since.

We just don’t travel with luggage any more, we courier the suitcases from Spain and this is why: Nearly 30m, yes 30,000,000 suitcases were “mishandled” last year, in 2010, and over 1m, yes 1,000,000 were lost entirely, never to be recovered. This is a significant rise on the previous year. The compensation is bound not to cover the real cost and the claims procedure consists of the airline attempting to block you at every turn until you finally give up.

Imagine the distress of losing your suitcase. It may not even contain anything valuable but we all carry a photo that may be important or a pair of shoes that we particularly love or a sponge-bag that was a present from a friend. Just going out and shopping for new clothes is not as much fun as it sounds. A hand-made suit or your grandfather’s hair brushes are irreplaceable. Why risk it …… and where do 1m suitcases a year go?
