I know this sounds odd but, although I have bought through eBay for years and set up our UK Address in Spain partly to get my goods over here much cheaper, quicker and more reliably, I have only just explored the world of Supermarket Shopping in Spain.
In the UK I used to use Tesco’s on-line shopping the whole time and also shopped for my mother in law who, over 80 years of age, could not carry back the shopping to her flat. She would fax me a list of what she wanted and the next day they would appear – she didn’t really know how but she always tipped the “nice young man” 50p for carrying everything to the 2nd floor.
So I tried Tesco but they won’t deliver to our Birmingham warehouse as they only go to residential addresses. Never mind, whenever I’m in the UK I prefer to shop in Waitrose and their food is available on-line from Ocado who do the Waitrose home delivery service and WILL deliver to Citibox, 20 Bond St., West Bromwich B70 7DQ.
So what? I hear you ask, UK products are available from hundreds of stores in Spain (mostly called Arkwrights) where you don’t have to wait a week for your shopping to arrive. But they’re really expensive and on hundreds of products Ocado guarantee to match Tesco’s prices. The sheer excitement of shopping on-line at Waitrose and the superb range of goods available PLUS all the money saved over buying the same thing in Spain is a real eye opener.
What sort of things did we buy? Milton Sterilising fluid; Dettol Antibacterial Surface Cleaner; speciality organic baking flours; walnut oil; consomé; Cheddar extra mature; linseed for bread making. The delivery arrived bang on-time on Thursday afternoon to ensure it was on Friday’s pallet and was there at our local Citibox outlet in Albuñol the following Thursday morning.
I will post how much it all cost on another blog. The exciting news is that both Sainsbury and Asda will deliver to our West Brom. warehouse so I shall be shopping for all sorts of things and keep you updated. Remember, Citibox only charge €1/kg to deliver from the UK to your local Citibox so you are not going to save much on a can of baked beans (although Asda has 51 different choices of baked bean!) but on 100s of other products you will gain the convenience and wide choice of internet shopping AND save money. That’s something to tap your back pocket about.
